City of Issaquah

Farallon worked with City of Issaquah Public Works Engineering to implement the Critical Aquifer Recharge Area (CARA) standards and guidelines developed to protect the groundwater wells providing Issaquah’s water supply from hazardous material contamination in a cooperative manner with area small businesses. Collaborating with City of Issaquah staff, Farallon conducted site visits at over 250 businesses overlying the wellhead protection area to assess the types and quantities of hazardous materials present. The resulting Hazardous Materials Inventory was used to determine which businesses are subject to CARA requirements. Educational materials and fact sheets were prepared to familiarize businesses with the CARA program and proper management of hazardous materials. Follow-up contacts and visits were performed to facilitate business compliance with program objectives and to enhance cooperative implementation of BMPS for hazardous materials handling.
