Aboveground Storage Tank Violation Fine Negotiation

AST Violoation fine negiotiation jobsite

Farallon supported the operator of a bulk fuel storage facility in Alaska that received a significant fine from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for violation of AST regulations for secondary containment and reporting. EPA determined: 1) the capacity of the secondary containment in place was inadequate for the volume of fuel stored; 2) the structural integrity of the secondary containment system was compromised; and 3) inspection and monitoring records were inadequate.

Farallon completed a detailed engineering evaluation of the secondary containment system and provided design recommendations for repairs and expansion to meet EPA requirements. Farallon also met with EPA to support negotiations for decreasing the fine and defining a plan for future compliance. The fine was lowered significantly based on the technical support provided by Farallon.
