Get to know Rob Leet

July 26, 2019

A Farallon team member for 2 years, Rob Leet is a Senior Geologist based out of our Seattle, Washington office.

The seeds of Rob’s interest in geology and the natural environment were planted in the 1960s, when as a young boy, Rob would throw pumice rocks in crystal clear streams emanating from volcanic glaciers in Central Oregon and watch in wonder as they floated like leaves downstream.

Another favorite activity back then was rowing his grandfather’s new aluminum fishing boat on Elk Lake, outside of Bend. His father allowed him to do this only after Rob had passed the annual “man overboard” test in the lake’s icy waters.

Rob’s interest in messing around in rowboats continues to this day, having rowed competitively for the past 35 years. Earlier this year, he returned from a three-day masters championship rowing regatta in Vancouver, Washington, where he was awarded two gold medals and one silver medal for age-category races in the double and quadruple sculls events. Rob can’t think of any better way to start the day than plying the waters of Seattle’s lakes, bays, and ship canals while most of the city’s residents are still slumbering.
