Farallon Inaugurates Internship Program
June 2011 marked the inauguration of Farallon’s internship program with Ms. Anna Sigel joining the Farallon Team for the summer. The internship program is designed to provide university students pursuing a career in environmental consulting with exposure to the industry, particularly the characterization and cleanup of contaminated properties. Interns receive the required Occupational Safety and Health Administration health and safety training, and a first-hand introduction to field work being conducted for projects at various sites requiring investigation and cleanup. An additional intern benefit is gaining an understanding of Washington State cleanup regulations such as the Washington State Model Toxics Control Act Cleanup Regulation and other federal and state regulatory requirements.
Anna was selected as Farallon’s initial intern based on her educational background in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, engineering biology, and engineering chemistry and her interest in stormwater management practices and soil remediation engineering, design, and regulations. Anna is a junior at Seattle University, where she is enrolled in the Civil Engineering program. Prior to coming to Farallon, Anna successfully completed an engineering internship with the Naval Facilities in Everett, Washington.
Projects for Anna’s summer involvement with Farallon ranged from cleanup actions employing standard and innovative technologies to complex litigation support projects, as well as an assortment of diverse projects that Farallon currently is engaged in. Her internship responsibilities also included data management, support for field operations, research for litigation support projects, and assistance with data compilation and interpretation.
Farallon is pleased to introduce the internship program and welcome Anna as its first participant, and looks forward to the mutual benefits that will be realized by this initiative and summer partnership.
