aMr. Portele has 29 years of professional experience as an Environmental Engineer specializing in hazardous waste management and site cleanups, with an emphasis on pollution control technologies.  He has managed hazardous waste site cleanup and investigative operations at a wide variety of sites, including pesticide/herbicide, mixed-waste, drum and tank, soil and groundwater contamination, and major spill sites, and pole-treating facilities.  Mr. Portele also has managed multi-disciplinary teams of hazardous materials professionals conducting CERCLA cleanup activities, oil and hazardous material spill responses, RCRA compliance assessments, site investigations, contaminant source identification, immediate removals, and stormwater system inspections and management assessments for industrial and government clients throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.  Project work has involved planning and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies; permitting support for a wide array of cleanup actions; and preparation of technical information and presentation at public hearings.  He has been responsible for the review, evaluation, and selection of hazardous waste site remediation technologies, compliance management, and BMP technologies designed to address a range of contaminants.  Mr. Portele’s responsibilities have encompassed all phases of planning, scheduling, and supervising field operations, including site management and administration, cost management, technical operations, regulatory agency coordination and negotiations, and field documentation.

When not working, Mr. Portele enjoys hiking the Tiger Mountain trail system with his Labrador/Newfoundland dog-small pony mix, striving to get his golf handicap somewhere below the national debt, providing misguided help to his wife in her avid dahlia-growing efforts, going on family fishing trips in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and tracking his daughter as she progresses through several international teaching jobs, including most of the last 2 years in China, and most recently at the International School in Leysin, Switzerland.
