Mr. Schmitt has 25 years of professional experience in the environmental consulting industry, including contaminant hydrogeology and evaluation of hydrogeologic systems in complex geologic environments.  He has extensive experience in characterizing the source and distribution of contamination in soil, groundwater, and surface water at both private sector and U.S. Department of Defense facilities.  Mr. Schmitt’s project experience includes cleanup program management, project scope and objective development, project plan preparation, field program management, data compilation and interpretation, regulatory negotiation, remedial alternative evaluation, and conceptual design.  He has provided technical services in support of mediation and litigation as well as third-party opinion on numerous projects.  Mr. Schmitt also has developed and managed cost-allocation projects with multiple responsible parties.
Mr. Schmitt has numerous outside interests, including hang gliding, fly fishing, hiking, and camping.  His goals for this year include making a hang gliding flight greater than 100 miles (his current personal best is 87 miles at a maximum altitude above 13,000 feet) and keeping up with his two teenage children and wife at downhill skiing.  Several times each year, Mr. Schmitt and other Farallon Principals take clients on multi-day fly fishing adventures for Northwest trout and steelhead.  Mr. Schmitt also has an interest in the quality and expansion of Washington- and Oregon-produced wines.
